I made it through the morning
Hey, at least there were no hang-ups on BART and Caltrain! And they were even air-conditioned.

Also, I didn't faint when I had my blood drawn. And I didn't faint when I stood in Starbucks waiting, waiting, waiting for my food to come, please. They forgot half my order. This fit with earlier in the morning, when I could only get 2/3 of my blood work done -- and they misunderstood that I wanted to stay and get what I could get done now and come back later for the last test.

And it's really hot in Palo Alto.

But i am looking on the bright side.

The Price of Health, 1963
6-Day Hospital Bill, 1963

Before I was born, my parents were in a single-car accident while on vacation driving through South Dakota in 1963. Going through family papers after my mom's death, I ran across their hospital bills from the accident. This was my mom's. My dad's bill was about $2.50 cheaper.

South Dakota Nurses, 1963

My dad was always taking photos. This is the crew that cared for my family in the hospital.
_______________________________________________________________________

Speaking of hospitals, nurses, and health, I've gotten very health-conscious ever since my mom died. I joined the South Pasadena YMCA the day after I got back from the funeral and have been going 6 days a week ever since. I love it there. No hipsters, cruisers, models, etc., just regular people. So far I've lost 15 lbs and am seeing signs of a slight muscular build which is something I've never had before. Also, 5 months ago I stopped drinking. I never had a drinking problem but one day I just decided to quit. I never really cared for it in the first place but sometimes it helped with my social awkwardness. But basically, it just made me tired. If I'd go out somewhere, I'd have one or two and then declare it was time to go home and sleep. Anyway, I'm feeling WAY better these days. The only thing that's failing me is my eyesight. All my life I've had perfect vision, but now I need glasses when reading or working at the computer. Once the gray hairs start taking over, I'm looking forward to the older, distinguished look.

Thank you for the lovely birthday!
I think I'm 49 now, but I'll have to do some math in order to be sure.

Ouch!

Okay, that was enough math. Let's just estimate that I'm somewhere around 49 and call it good.

Special thanks to Taree for dinner and the lovely massage, to Matt for the suspension and the snuggles (and everything else!) and to Red for the suspended hair brushing, and the pink and black scorcher of an outfit! Taree and Matt, you looked nice too. ;-)

I'm so damn lucky!!

Catwoman

Last week was the opening of the Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy exhibition at the Fashion Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The original Catwoman latex costume that Michelle Pfeiffer made famous in Batman Returns is part of the exhibit. Syren Latex (new site next week!) made the costume back in the day and was asked to piece together the original costume for the show. The original costume had not been taken care of properly and had mostly disintegrated. So it was up to Jeff at Syren to assemble the original parts with new latex elements to make a proper costume for the exhibition. Jeff even brought on board my longtime friend Molly (formerly of So Hip It Hurts Latex) to help out on the hood portion of the costume. Since I work with Stockroom (who owns Syren), I had the chance to witness and document firsthand the restoration of this iconic piece of fetish fashion.

All the ripped parts of the costume were individually molded pieces of rubber which were then attached to the costume surface.

Detailed shot of one of the 'ripped' appliqués and a guide to show where each piece was to be attached.

Finally!

My hot tub has been out of commission since April 29th.  I was finally able to take a soak in it tonight.  Damn that felt good.  I do a lot of thinking in my tub.  It's nice to have it back.
